So far Im just gathering peeps to start this thing, Hopefully we can get a magazine going, I have a fabulous photographer in line, so all we need next is a fashion illustrator and possibly a english major for editing. May 14, 2009Art Student BluesWell, I was rejected for another scholarship....due to the fact that Im an art major.. while I do understand the priority for science and math majors, art majors shouldnt be overstepped.. As artists, we dont just make "pretty pictures", we are activists. Our work spotlights issues in our immediate community and global world. Art is used to evoke emotion from the viewer, whether to upset, delight, explore or to inform. Unfortunately alot of people do not understand the artistic process and think its a bunch of crap... Well its not, art has been used for many purposes through out history and it should not be separated from the human condition.
Art and expression is as much a part of the human as mathematical measure or scientific curiosity. In the Paleolithic Period it was used to express not only spiritual beliefs, cave paintings provided an illustration of the identifiable animal form which was important in the education of Hunters. Art has also served as an expression of mathematics and the anatomical human form in art in greek statuary. You can see this in Polykleitos statue Doryphoros which was used as a canon in greek and later roman art.
Artists have also documented significantly important historical events such as the Dacian Wars in the Roman Column of Trajan c. 112. c.e,
and the Battle of Hastings in the Bayeux Tapestries c. 1070 c.e.
Art has been used to express human spirituality in all context of religion, from the aniconic, abstract geometric designs in Islamic Art to the Iconic depiction of Christ and the Virgin Mary.
In painting, Art has documented and provided many accurate images of leaders throughout history. Paintings serve as a lens into past worlds and time periods such as the middle ages or renaissance.

St. Matthew of the Lindisfarne Gospels

King Philip IV of Spain

Art has served as a study to the sociologist, it has documented where many societies interchange and adapt different styles of clothing, attitudes and beliefs. Just look at the Singh of Marwar c 1880.

May 12, 2009Now.I am going to volunteer for big brother big sister in my city. There are so many disadvantaged hispanic youth that need to be introduced to something inspiring, something positive and something productive. When were old these kids are going to be leading our nation whether we like it or not, so we need to help them to understand the world they live in now, and how they could change it for the better. Education needs to be emphasized, Culture needs to be acknowledged, the natural environment needs to be understood.
With all the knowledge I have gained through experience and a college education I hope to change a life for the better.

May 6, 2009Death and DelusionThe Universe seeks Entropy, therefore humans were blessed with the capability to deny the natural order and construct some fantastical form of society based on capitalism. We now more than ever are quite removed in a sense from our natural surroundings, we believe that by living in society we are living a reality, but this is not the case. Money doesn't exist, money is based on faith. It has evolved from the common notion of object to object trade. Money is only a measurement, like algebra, or any other human construct. Gold should not be idolized either, you know why its rare? Throughout history people have been attracted to the characteristics of its malleability, and the fact that it doesn't Tarnish...So we assigned some symbolic meaning to gold and then used it and exploited it, especially the spanish and portuguese during the 1500's. Because of Gold and wealth accumulation (Greed), many people were suppressed such as the Mesoamerican and Andean cultures, not that they were saints either... Those Aztecs liked to tax the hell out of their citizens, and sacrificed many of the people in the lower classes.
Anyway.. you know what makes me really mad? I took Biology this year and learned some about the natural environment and order, I mean it was only one semester but I think I've gained more than I actually thought I would. and now Im angry with the way our society is headed. Its really disappointing that people can go around parading their flag of ignorance, and absolute disregard of anything that they directly arent interested in. That is the fall and failure of man. When one does not, or refuses to accept to push past the screen of the domesticated lifestyle to see what exists outside of himself. Yeah I know there will be some stuff we cant comprehend, but what is important is that WE LEARN in order to understand how we interact with nature, and within our own society.
How do we integrate these two?
We sure as hell shouldnt be allowing oil companies to be drilling in the arctic. Its like tearing down a whole forest to build one damn house that wont sell. And because it wont sell, its cheaper to tear it down. Does that make sense? Does it really?
WHAT THE HELL. were causing our own entropy

April 17, 2009"Tea Parties" in Texasdue to the election of Barrack Obama, many conservatives and libertarians have recoiled. Many do not trust a african american politician and many are frightened by his style of politics, but this is common. We fear what we do not know.
Anyway many and some of these people are organizing by the masses into these so called tea parties in front of the Alamo... Whether they know the extensive history of the Alamo or the Tea parties in questionable and this also makes it seem that they are recreating these into symbols off of their face value, which the general public recognizes.......... Many were dressed in Indian costumes....... Really..take off the damn indian suits off, stop yelling and go make a constructive proposition instead of creating a hoopla.. This mass of protesters also became increasingly antagonistic.. something Mark twain would of frowned upon which is illustrated in the Boggs Sherburn incident in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Man these tea parties, are great for the republicans though, with the crowd all riled up against Obama, they will be able to play off of the heightened emotion and anger many feel towards the current government.... You also might wanna check the people leading these organizations... and always attempt with the Socratic method. lol 1. Corporate or Business Affiliations 2. Socioeconomic Status 3. Intentions and goals 4. Educational Background
So I know everyone hates to pay taxes, but come on, stop being so attached to your money and think of the benefits it offers to society.(I know that money is powerful thing, but we need to be careful to not get OVER indulgent. You dont need excessive amounts of homes...look at John McCain, it obviously causes real estate amnesia.. and we also dont need an amount of automobiles that excessively exceeds the amount of inhabitants in one house hold. Do you really NEED 50 Cars??? or are they merely accessories? and for those who embezzle money... your already at the top of the tier, and your still taking more?? Maybe what you need is a therapist along with some jail time, and a salary cap.) 1. It allows for an advanced nation state, military, and other services... Thats why we got RID of the articles of Confederation and established the constitution..... 2. Public works programs 3. allow for a broad basis to fund wars, and pay troops. So for those people complaining about how liberals dont support the troops, uh we all do financially, and if you dont want to pay your taxes then YOUR unpatriotic... 4. Any educated person understands the taxation system and knows its benefits and flaws.
I know its an outrage to hear about these wallstreet financiers and large multimillionaire embezzlements, but thats due to lax restrictions and minimal oversight and general politics. But I think its much more constructive to make an effort to be educated on these matters, not only in a contemporary light but a historical sight on a worldly level... You have a much broader pallet to work with when constructing an argument, and it just might even make sense... So please tea parties, stop hootin and hollerin your independence, guns and absolute freedoms, because there is no absolute freedom within a society or group of people. if you want absolute freedom, mars is totally open.
I mean really. does money bring happiness? or is happiness found in consumption? Buy Buy Buy. Maybe we need to stop focusing on the material, and commercial and start to focus on personal development and a new sense of self satisfaction and happiness.. Materialistic worlds are often quite cold and artificial, Gilded, Gold plating on the outside, base metal on the inside.

March 29, 2009Thoughts
the american society would fall, people with various skills would ban together to form tribes. Some individuals would try to capture power for them selves, and those most dependent on the system of currency and the world of the internet would collectively fall to shock and diminish. The keenest, those who have embraced the realities of the natural world would continue to thrive and pull to the top.
Our society is much too dependent on the internet. A pro is that it can be used as a powerful globalization mechanism, commerce exchange and formation of "new" or extended cultural "domains". Its a mirror to our own world in a way, it reflects a part of the human totality in which can be put on display for others to ponder upon. A human creation, but to what means and what ends are we going to use it for? Studying a certain Underground Culture most prevalent in todays culture, in and outside of the internet, I found a highly repulsive case of statutory rape, which is not uncommon, but still disturbing. Anyway, this occurrence happened on a popular social networking site which allows users to broadcast themselves live. Well, A man of the age of twenty one who belongs to a group of the most heralded figures in this underground scene culture, committed the act of indecent exposure by revealing her genitals on camera for the whole world to see. Then he committed an act of pornography and statutory rape, while she was still passed out. These acts should not go unpunished, especially due to the nature of the individual. This is completely unacceptable on many levels. This also begs the question: Who are these so called "scene queens and kings" and why have they become role models for many young adolescents and children. I understand that teenagers go through a "rebellion stage" due to several factors which include and are not exclusive to: family, transition from child to adult and much confusion due to hormonal changes in the body, social norms and pressure, the mass media, egocentricity and the search for the "soul". They also feel a sense of vulnerability at times therefore many tend to form and or surround themselves with people in an established group. There may be a fear of seclusion involved as well. During this time social hierarchies are formed within schools, especially public schooling systems. The many groups established have a central core, but do branch out into other groups. Some more secluded and "nationalistic" groups may declare war on another group due to competition or fear, or to establish some sort of dominance. It isn't possible to simply stereotype these groups of individuals, but we can roughly give an estimate of their most prominent value systems, dress, language use and outward projection. Many of these groups collectively abuse drugs, for entertainment purposes or to escape into a sense of fantasy or pleasure. This is a broad summary; They can be classified under depressants, Hallucinogenic, and Stimulants each consisting of subcategories. They vary in effect in each person, and cause changes in hormonal levels and interfere with Neurotransmission and uptake in the synaptic cleft. Although drugs have been used throughout history, there is a difference of drug use from 700 c.e by the Mayan priest class in ceremonial rituals, to general public in the 21st century. I highly disagree with drug use on all levels due to my educational background and moral standards. Recently a family member of mine has taken his own life due to egocentricity, selfishness and a lifestyle involving drugs. Drugs should not be legalized on any level, and those educated enough can understand the dangers that would prevail in a society, especially the american society. Just felt like I needed to get a few things out of my head...

February 6, 2009Inspiring.
Everyday that I wake up and go to class I find something new in something ancient. Taking World Civilization in combination with Art History has allowed me to open my vision to contemporary thought and the development of society. We are a reflection of our own biology. There is never anything we do not borrow and develop from some other individual or society. It is all part of adaptation, and the continuation of the world dynamic. We cannot separate our selves from any other being because we are in essence, built of the same organic molecules as our neighbors. Whether you are a celebrity, recluse or cowboy, we all we born, and we will all perish. History and Fame would not exist without human existence, documentation, or language capabilities. Im glad I pursued a liberal arts education for the reason that I feel a much larger sense of understanding, and tolerance for variation, and natural phenomenon around me. From all Ive learned, and all that i have experienced I hope to give back to society in order to promote tolerance, Academic growth in order to propel our species into the future. Choosing to be an artist wasnt a question, but what I do with my vision and subject matter is. Hopefully in the future I will be able to encounter and work with others who share a similar goal. Who you are and what you are doesnt matter, what does matter is how you will impliment you capabilities in order to accomplish something for humanity. Without Sacrifice, and Steadfastness how would we be able to Move foward towards our goals?

December 7, 2008Jesus Loves Porn Stars.
http://xxxchurch.com/
Im slightly skeptical of their intentions, I saw an episode of 20/20 (or at least I thought it was) of this "church" in Vegas, aimed at reaching out to the porn stars, and backwards entertainers. I found this in the spirit of the new testament....but.... Im still skeptical. Look at Pastor John Hagee. He started this massive Church in Texas, claimed to inspire protestantism and religious faith, etc... but Ultimately the guy was just out for a buck. Go look at the church... It looks like the Taj Mahal... with a digital billboard to announce events, worship hours and etc... come on now. He has a Benz for crying out loud. Its a business affair. It has also spawned a rash of evangelical, bible literalists, who denote others due to homosexuality, race, gender, etc.... But you know that goes with all religions when they get too crazy. Well, I feel that this xxxchurch might do some help to reach out to those trapped in a terrifying, cold, dissolusional world of sex, drugs and alcohol..... but eventually there is gonna come a point when it will become obsolete. Some of these people, who are in that sort of backwards entertaining are mentally built differently so they wont take to it anyway... Sigh.... I really don't know. Im trying to be open minded and as objective as possible, but for a human to do that is extremely challenging, we all have our perceptions due to experience....
